What is an electrical panel?

An electrical panel or a distribution board is a part of the electrical installation that distributes the electrical power into subsidiary circuits while providing a protective fuse or circuit breaker for each circuit in a common enclosure. The circuit breaker and fuse ensure no over-current during distribution. Therefore, the electrical panel is an integral part of the electrical design.

Electrical panels and distribution boards contain conductors, switchgear, and equipment for connecting, controlling and protecting various circuit elements in an electrical distribution system easy and safe handling of electrical energy. The structure and technical aspects of a distribution board depend on the electrical requirements.

Why is an Industrial Electrical Design Consultant required?

The electrical panel is an integral part of the electrical installation. Industrial electrical installations are complex. Safe and efficient distribution is essential to any electrical installation. As a result, the electrical consultant has to do very detailed and careful engineering. Additionally,  there should be a provision for expansion.

Hence, the electrical design consultant has to use a great degree of skill, precision and accuracy while designing the panel. Furthermore, several minute details that need to be considered while designing the distribution boards. The industrial electrical consultants have to design the best distribution board, which will maximize safety during installation, up-gradation, and maintenance at an economical cost.

Features

  • The purpose of an electrical panel is to control light, heat or power circuits.
  • A cutout or an enclosure houses the electrical panel
  • The electrical panel is mounted in a wall or against a support, and
  • The panel is accessible from the front.

Components of an electrical panel?

Industrial Electrical design

The components of a typical electrical distribution board are as follows:

  1. Bus bar
  2. Fuse links
  3. Switches,
  4. Bypass equipment and
  5. Residual current detector (RSD).

To conclude, the electrical panel is a critical part of industrial electrical installation. An experienced industrial electrical design consultant properly designs an optimized electrical panel.
