A defect is a building flaw or Industrial design mistake that reduces the value of the building and causes a dangerous condition to the building. A construction defect can arise due to a lot of factors, such as shoddy workmanship or the use of inferior materials.
5 Common Structural issues in Industrial Buildings
1.Damaged Columns:
Interact with any experienced forklift operator. So, that they will let you know of a column that’s always in their way. Also, check with any column, and it will tell you its arch-nemesis is an experienced forklift operator. Regardless of the type of industrial or manufacturing facility, if forklifts or tugs are operating inside, there will be damaged columns.
2.Damaged Walls:
As same as columns, walls can take a beating inside an industrial facility. Generally, internal operations causes damage. Anyhow, we’ve seen numerous examples of damage to exterior walls caused by landscaping operations or truck traffic around the perimeter of the building.
3.Cracked Lintels, Bowed roof, Leaks:
If the industrial structural wood in the roof structure of your home has fault, it can cause issues to lower down the building. This happens if weight is not being distributed correctly. Moreover, signs could include cracked lintels over windows and doorways. Also, other indications could be a bow in the roof. Structural timber repairs have traditionally been time-consuming and expensive. Even if it was possible to bolt a new timber section on, the bolt overlap was so long that it was mainly the same as replacing the entire timber.
4.Overstressed Framing in Industrial Buildings:
Through the years, operations inside the industrial facility change and grow. Because, Industrial people may add various equipment or utilities without regard to the capacity of the original structure. This leads to overstress and potential failure in the fabric. Therefore, this overstressing makes it worse when an individual attempts to cut/chop/notch the original structure.
5.Inuadeqate Maintenance of Exposed Structure:
Common issues encountered include
1) Inadequate cleaning of the gutter ( a shallow trough fixed beneath the edge of a roof for carrying off rainwater ) and roof drain systems to prevent ponding water on the roof.
2) The coating system on exterior steel is beyond its service life or the steel was never coated/galvanized to protect against corrosion.
3) Improper maintenance in exposed concrete surfaces.
